This is a triumphant song of praise to God (96:1~3), contrasting His power and glory with the nothingness of the heathen idols (96:4~6), calling all the earth to worship Him (96:7~9), exulting in His rule (Psa_96:10), and calling all nations to rejoice in the prospect of His coming in judgment (96:11~13). The tone of the Palm is closely akin to that of Isaiah 40-66, and was in all likelihood inspired by the deliverance from exile. The existence of the second Temple will then be implied in Isaiah 66:6, 8. This Psalm has been wrought into the composite poem of 1Chronicles 16:8~36.
Glorious psalm, Psalm 96:1~13 , encouraging us to the praising of the Lord. Singing the praises unto Him. Declaring the glories of God and the wonders of His work. Because of the greatness of God, He is to be greatly praised. He is above all of the gods of the nations, the other gods that people follow after. So give unto Him the glory due His name. Worship Him. And then the anticipation of His coming, "for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth".
